On March 21, Commerce Secretary Mary P. Burke held a press conference at "The Creamery Building" in Fort Atkinson to discuss Governor Jim Doyle's proposed budget. The building, owned by the VyMac Corporation, parent company of Verlo Mattress, was recently refurbished, thanks in part to a $500,000 Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment grant to the city from Commerce in 2003. The former Hartel Building, which was constructed in the 1920's and had a long history of use by manufacturers of industrial and dairy equipment, was perhaps best known as the headquarters for the former Creamery Package Company – hence the new name.
