Biodiesel production involves materials that are flammable, combustible and toxic. Safe storage and handling of these materials is essential from a fire safety and human health aspect.

Building and storage tank design are required to meet specific code requirements that generally require a pre-construction plan approval. Even if the building is an existing one and meets code, requirements for the storage and handling of flammable or combustible liquids, the tank system must have a plan approval when installed or prior to the conversion to biodiesel production.
