Effective July 19, 2004, the Fire Prevention Program was relocated from the Environmental Regulatory Services Division to the Safety and Buildings Division within the Commerce Department.

In addition to realizing monetary savings, relocating the Fire Prevention Program to the Safety and Buildings Division will improve the coordination of support services provided to fire departments. The Fire Prevention Program will now be positioned to work more closely with other construction related fire-safety programs for the benefit of our customers.
