Bureau of
Housing to Introduce Front Door in 2004
Front
Door is a Web-based database that will be available to anyone
with access to the Internet. The database will provide a centralized
collection of homeless services offered throughout Wisconsin including
rental assistance, emergency shelter, eviction prevention, and many
other services including a centralized, comprehensive list of affordable
housing units available to low and moderate-income households. The
resource and housing data will be accessible through on-screen search
locators. Educational information on housing in Wisconsin will also
be provided to users of Front Door.
The housing component of Front Door will use software that is currently being used in Portland, Oregon. In Wisconsin, public housing authorities, landlords, and property managers will be able to efficiently list their available affordable units, quickly post vacancies, and remove leased units via the Internet. Tenants and agencies that assist tenants will be able to search Front Door for available units based on unit size, rent amount, amenities, location, handicap accessibility, and other search factors. The Bureau of Housing expects to introduce Front Door to Wisconsin in April 2004. For more information contact, Don Hammes at (608) 264-8503. --Don Hammes |
