"These brownfield grants empower people to restore industrial sites and improve their communities," Gov. Doyle said.

The nine communities and six businesses selected to receive grants are redeveloping contaminated properties that were otherwise abandoned or under-used. It is anticipated that the projects funded will result in the remediation and reuse of 252 acres of land, generate a total investment of $146 million, and create over 180 jobs.

• Crawford County, $35,000 Brownfields Grant.
• Crawford County, $75,000 Brownfields Grant.
• City of Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, $750,000 Brownfields Grant.
• Fond du Lac County, $100,000 Brownfields Grant.
• Jensar Corporation, Milwaukee, $575,000 Brownfields Grant.
• City of Kenosha, $1 million Brownfields Grant.
• City of Milwaukee, $1 million Brownfields Grant.
• Mid-Town Center, LLC, Town of Madison, Dane County, $300,000 Brownfields Grant.
• Richland Center, Richland County, $290,000 Brownfields Grant.
• City of Sun Prairie, Dane County, $750,000 Brownfields Grant.
• Toldt Development, Wauwatosa, $90,000 Brownfields Grant.
• City of West Allis, $335,000 Brownfields Grant.
