Small Business Clean Air Assistance Program

Wisconsin Printers' ERP Shows Results!

The SBCAAP worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and industry representatives to develop an Environmental Results Program (ERP) for printers in Wisconsin.  The project wrapped up in July 2009 and the results have been submitted to USEPA in a report on the State Innovation Grant.

What is ERP?

Environmental requirements can be confusing and intimidating. The Wisconsin Printers' ERP can help improve both understanding of the requirements and overall environmental performance if a printer participated in the whole program. The ERP includes an Environmental Compliance Assistance Workbook and Environmental Compliance Self-Certification Checklist, which is found in the table under ERP Materials below. The workbook and checklist are written in “plain language” and are designed to walk a printer through the requirements and explain exactly what needs to be done for compliance.

Can I Still Participate in the Printer ERP?

The DNR is not officially accepting ERP self-certifications at this time.  Those who decide to complete a self-certification have two options:

First, to help improve their operations a printer may go through the workbook and self-certification checklist and make changes as appropriate.  There are many pollution prevention recommendations that can help save time and money.  In this case, the owner would just retain the forms for their records.

Second, if a facility is concerned that they may find problems in their operations and would like some level of protection for self-reporting through the DNR's Compliance Audit program, the owner should contact Kim McCutcheon at the DNR (608.275.3207 or Kim.McCutcheon@Wisconsin.gov) to find out whether the program can help them.  But, if DNR has already found problems with your operations and recommends that you to use the ERP workbook and self-certification checklist as a way to better understand your requirements, the Compliance Audit program is no longer an option for you.

DNR and the SBCAAP are investigating future uses for the Printer ERP with the industry representatives.

Training on Using the ERP Materials

If you have questions on how to use the materials, we have an online training session available to view at any time.  Click here to view the webcast from July 20, 2007.
