NEWS
WSBN 2009 meeting
postponed
The annual meeting of the Wisconsin
Building Safety
Network set for September 30, 2009, in Pewaukee has been postponed. The
Department of Commerce and University of Wisconsin-Madison
cite
ongoing budget concerns facing both the State of Wisconsin and
municipalities as reasons for the postponement.
Henry
Kosarzycki, S&B's Municipal Liaison, said the meeting will be
rescheduled to address new Wisconsin commercial building code programs
currently under development. He said, "We appreciate everyone in the
WBSN's patience and understanding, and will make every effort to
continue serving everyone involved in Wisconsin's regulatory process -
a regulatory model that focuses on health, safety and welfare of our
built environment."
If you have questions about the WBSN,

Speaking at the 2009 University of
Wisconsin Building Code
Refresher Conference, Commerce Secretary Richard Leinenkugel said,
"Commerce has delegated more than 200 municipalities to perform plan
review and inspection services for local builders and
designers. These
communities are part of our Wisconsin Building Safety Network.
"This
partnership
increases our outreach to communities, and
also benefits local builders, because municipalities can usually
provide more immediate service to local projects."
The Wisconsin Building Safety
Network
(WBSN) was formed in 1915 to help communities coordinate their
community development, economic development, building regulation and
fire
department efforts. The hope is for cooperative and
streamlined processes resulting in building projects completed faster,
safer and at
less cost.

2008
WBSN
annual meeting promoted state/local regulatory partnerships
Public
officials in Wisconsin looking to better coordinate delivery of
regulatory services attended the 2008 annual meeting of the Wisconsin
Building Safety Network (WBSN) in Pewaukee.
The all-day program included
presentations by several Wisconsin municipalities on building
projects;they have successfully implemented. Local
government
officials, municipal managers, building regulation supervisors, and
fire
department officials took home practical information about:
- Effective regulatory management strategies
- Effective
coordination of building code programs and local economic
development
- Managing storm water runoff
- Innovative and successful building safety programs
In
addition, attendees interacted with
representatives of the Safety and Buildings Division and the Department
of Natural
Resources.
The annual meeting was co-sponsored by
S&B and University of Wisconsin-Madison. S&B
and UW-Madison staff planned the fall event with an advisory
group of representatives from the League of Wisconsin Municipalities,
Wisconsin Towns Association, Wisconsin Fire Inspectors Association, and
the
Wisconsin Counties Association.
