Cooperation between State, Local and County Governments and Organizations Help Keep Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac

MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle today announced that the Wisconsin Department of Commerce has been named as one of the top finalists in 2010 Corporate Investment & Community Impact (CiCi) Awards, presented by Trade & Industry Development magazine for the collaborative effort to keep Mercury Marine, Inc. in Fond du Lac.

"We are appreciative of the honor bestowed on us by the publishers of Trade & Industry Development for recognizing the tremendous group effort to keep Mercury Marine in Wisconsin," said Governor Doyle. "It is through regionalized cooperation that we are strongest, when we all work together for the good of Wisconsin's overall economy.

Mercury Marine, which was founded in Wisconsin, has provided jobs and investment in the state for over 70 years. When the recent global economic downturn adversely affected the outboard motor company and management began looking at cost saving measures - including shutting down operations in the state and moving them to Oklahoma - Governor Jim Doyle, county and city officials, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers stepped up and worked together to provide incentives to help save both the company and the 2,000 individuals it employs.

With more than 1,000 project submissions from throughout North America, this project was chosen as one of only 15 finalists for the Impact division of the CiCi Awards. This project will be highlighted in the March/April issue of Trade & Industry Development.
