Governor and First Lady Doyle Announce Schedule for Public Holiday Tours at the Executive Residence
For Immediate Release: November 16, 2009 Tours Begin December 9th and Continue through December 19th MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle and First Lady Jessica Doyle announced today that the public holiday tours of Wisconsin's Executive Residence will begin December 9, 2009. "Jessica and I are pleased to welcome people from around the state and across the nation to tour Wisconsin's Executive Residence", Governor Doyle said. "Visiting the Residence is a very special way to celebrate December's holiday season." Public holiday tours of the Executive Residence are available:
Those participating in a tour will enjoy six trees, each decorated to honor a Wisconsin group or theme. Trees include: Tribute to the Troops (honoring Wisconsin servicemen and women), Bells to Biotech (showcasing Wisconsin biotech companies and products), Nigerian Noel (representing Nigerian heritage in Wisconsin), Caroling in the Counties (celebrating the diversity of Wisconsin's 72 districts), Featuring Family Farms (highlighting Wisconsin's farms, one of our proudest achievements), and Holiday Hits (displaying Fourth Graders' ornaments of their favorite holiday movies). Entertainment will highlight each tour. Each guided tour lasts about 30 minutes and includes a brief history of the Executive Residence. There is no charge for admission, but participants in the tours are encouraged to bring new or nearly new children's books to the Executive Residence. Books collected will be distributed to literacy organizations. Groups of 20 or more are asked to make a reservation by calling Vicki Heymann at 608-246-5501. The Executive Residence, which is handicapped accessible, is located at 99 Cambridge Road on Madison's northeast side in the Village of Maple Bluff.
