Governor Doyle Announces $17.6 Million in Recovery Act Funds for Community Development
For Immediate Release: August 5, 2009 Funding Provides $560,000 for Westfield Senior Center, Aids 37 Communities Statewide WESTFIELD - Governor Jim Doyle today announced $17.6 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for community development projects in Wisconsin. The Recovery funding will strengthen 37 communities across the state, including a new senior center in the village of Westfield. "Some of those who will be taking advantage of the senior center here in Westfield remember the investments our country made in the 1930s to move forward," Governor Doyle said today. "I am pleased that during the toughest economic conditions in generations, we are using the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to support projects that not only put people to work, but do lasting good and make a real improvement in people's lives." The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is flexible and provides communities with resources to address a wide range of development needs. It aims to provide decent affordable housing, services to the most vulnerable and jobs through business expansion and retention. The Wisconsin communities receiving CDBG funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act include: Dodgeville, Necedah, Nekoosah, Milltown, Plymouth, Rhinelander, Turtle Lake, Webster, Westfield, Blair, Chippewa Falls, Hawkins, Menomonie, Plain, Wautoma, Appleton, Beloit, Dane County, Eau Claire, Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Janesville, Kenosha, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Neenah, Oshkosh, Racine, Sheboygan, Superior, Waukesha, Waukesha County, Wausau, Wauwatosa and West Allis. -30- |
