Governor Doyle Announces $280,000 Brownfield Grant to Silverstone Partners, Inc.

For Immediate Release: July 1, 2009
Contact: Tony Hozeny, Department of Commerce, 608-267-9661

MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Silverstone Partners, Inc. will receive a $280,000 Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment grant from the Department of Commerce to help redevelop a contaminated and underutilized property in Dodge County.

"The cleanup and safe reuse of brownfield properties is about more than just renewing damaged or vacant land, it also helps spur additional reinvestment in these communities over the long haul," Governor Doyle said. "I'm pleased that we could help Silverstone Partners improve the local supply of rental units, particularly for senior citizens."

Silverstone Partners, Inc. plans to construct a 62-unit apartment building, Madison Place Senior Apartments, for elderly individuals at 115 Madison Street in Beaver Dam at the site of the former Thomas Chevrolet dealership. It will use the funds to address soil contamination and site clearance activities on the site. Approximately 55 of the 62 living units will be priced as affordable housing targeted for seniors. The total project cost is $7.8 million.

The Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination.
