Governor Doyle Recognizes 2009 Federal Procurement Award Winners
For Immediate Release: June 17, 2009 MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle this week announced the winners of the annual Governor's Procurement Awards. These annual awards recognize state firms particularly successful in federal procurement. In 2008, Wisconsin secured 5,118 federal contracts, amounting to $4.2 billion in federal sales. From 2000 to 2008, Wisconsin increased the federal contract dollars coming to the state by an average of 12 percent per year. "Congratulations to the winners of this year's Governor's Procurement Awards for the excellence of their products and their diligence, persistence, and commitment," Governor Doyle said. "I'm proud that Wisconsin continues to attract an increasing number of federal contract dollars each year. This growth is a testament to our commitment to hard work and focus on producing high end, quality products." "Wisconsin's federal contracting community has shown significant growth and development both in the number of contractors and contract dollars," said John Rogers, Chairman of the Wisconsin Procurement Institute Board. "Under the continuing efforts of our congressional delegation and leadership of our Governor, we anticipate this trend to continue." The awards are as follows: Absolute Technology Law - Milwaukee, Milwaukee County Absolute Technology Law (ATL) Group specializes in providing intellectual property services. ATL is an 8(a) and HUBZone certified, woman owned, business that began to focus on the federal marketplace less than two years ago. Within the first year they received their first contract and are successfully continuing to grow the government segment of their market. The principals of the firm actively mentor small firms in the government marketing process and methods. Magnum Products - Berlin, Green Lake County Magnum supplies powerful, high-quality light towers, mobile generators, trash pumps, water trailers and combination power units for a variety of industries including the Federal government. Magnum is also working on the development and commercialization of the Integrated Trailer Environmental Control Unit and Generator (ITEG) for the Marine Corps which is being funded by an SBIR Phase II grant. DRS Power & Control Technologies - Milwaukee, Milwaukee County DRS Technologies is a leading supplier of U.S. Navy shipboard propulsion systems, advanced permanent magnet motors and drives, electronic and mechanical control systems, power conversion equipment, and medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems for nuclear submarines and surface combatants. The company has installed equipment on every U.S. Navy combatant ship since World War II, including nuclear-powered and conventionally-powered ships and submarines. DRS was a major subcontractor on a program team led by Lockheed Martin Corporation to build the first Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) for the U.S. Navy. At a ceremony on Saturday, November 8, 2008 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Navy commissioned the USS FREEDOM (LCS1) into full Navy service.
