Governor Doyle Announces $500,000 Brownfield Grant to LDC-Pittsburgh LLC
For Immediate Release: September 4, 2008 MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle announced today that LDC-Pittsburgh LLC, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, will receive a $500,000 Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) grant from the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to help redevelop an unoccupied and underutilized property near the Milwaukee River. "Brownfield grants help renew damaged or vacant land and provide communities with opportunities for additional reinvestment," Governor Doyle said. "I'm pleased that we could help LDC-Pittsburgh LLC redevelop an underutilized urban corridor into a mixed-use project." LDC-Pittsburgh LLC, an affiliate of Lighthouse Development Company, plans to demolish several buildings, renovate several others, and construct a parking ramp. At completion, the project will make available 430,000 sq. ft. for retail, office, and apartment use. It will use the BEBR funds for environmental remediation, demolition, and building rehabilitation. The total project cost is $76 million. Commerce's BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination. For more information about the BEBR Program, contact Jason Scott, Commerce, at 608/261-7714. -30- |
