Project Offers Enhanced Services for Seniors

MELLEN - Governor Jim Doyle today announced that the City of Mellen has received a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Department of Commerce to construct a new senior center and library.

"Investing in our shared community resources is important for community growth and the development of local businesses," Governor Doyle said. "The enhanced Mellen Senior Center and Library will provide vital resources that will benefit the community for years to come."

The new 3,300-square-foot senior center and library will be located directly across the street from the current senior center. The new center will be ADA compliant, and it will have the capability to serve 100 meals. The Mellen Senior Center and Library will also offer enhanced programming for senior citizens including legal services, health and wellness programs, benefit specialist services, faith-in-action services, family caregiver support, and flu-shot clinics. The library will have additional space to allow for book storage and improved access to public computers. The total project cost is $400,000.
