Governor Doyle Announces More Than $6.6 Million to Benefit Homeless Population

APPLETON - Governor Jim Doyle today announced awards totaling $6,602,685 to 85 organizations across Wisconsin for emergency shelter, homeless prevention, assistance and transitional programs administered by the Division of Housing and Community Development in the Department of Commerce (Commerce).

"My priority as Governor is to create opportunity for all Wisconsin citizens," Governor Doyle said. "By providing this state and federally funded assistance, we can help more Wisconsin individuals and families find a home or keep the one they have, and put them on a path to a better life."

The award breakdown is as follows:

  • $4,568,916 to 67 agencies through the Emergency Shelter Grant/Transitional Housing Grant/ Homelessness Prevention Grant Programs
  • $895,269 to nine agencies through the HOME Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program
  • $678,500 to five agencies through the Project for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness Program (PATH)
  • $300,300 in one award through the statewide Critical Assistance Program
  • $159,700 to three organizations administering SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access and Recovery Program (SOAR)
