Major Investment Expected to Create 450 Jobs

PULASKI - Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Carver Boat Corporation will invest $27 million in major expansions of its Marquis Yacht Division business, creating 450 jobs.

"This is a great day for our boat-building industry and for all of Wisconsin," Governor Doyle said. "The Marquis Yacht Division of Carver Boat Corporation is the kind of competitive, high-end manufacturing jobs we want here in Wisconsin. I am pleased that we could assist the Marquis Yacht Company in this major expansion."

"I'm very excited about the future of Carver and its Marquis Yacht Division. This expansion is possible due to the proven accomplishments of our northeastern Wisconsin employees," said Irwin Jacobs, Chair and CEO of Carver Boat Corporation. "Our customers have requested larger world-class Marquis yachts, and we're going to build them. It's been a unique pleasure working with Governor Doyle in making this major expansion a reality for Green Bay, Pulaski, and the State of Wisconsin."

The Governor announced more than $4 million in state assistance, including a $2.7 million loan and a $600,000 training grant from the Department of Commerce and a $960,000 grant from the Department of Transportation through its Harbor Assistance Program.

The company plans to expand its plants in Pulaski, and open new facilities in Oconto County and within the city of Green Bay, adjacent to the South Bay Marina. The project will enable the company to meet increasing demand for its premium brand Marquis Yachts through the installation of new production lines and other design and manufacturing support services.

The Marquis Yacht Division of Carver Boat Corporation is the world's largest producer of yachts larger than 50 feet. Sales of Carver and Marquis Yachts are predominately to major coastal markets of the United States, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Pacific Rim.

Carver Boat Corporation manufactures luxury motor yachts under the Marquis and Carver brands that range in size from 36 feet to 70 feet. With the expansion, the company plans to produce yachts up to 100 feet in length. Marquis and Carver operate under the umbrella of the Carver Yacht Group, which is a division of pleasure boat manufacturer Genmar Holdings, Inc., based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Carver Boat Corporation has maintained manufacturing facilities in Wisconsin since its founding in 1954.
