AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin Receives Grant

For Immediate Release: October 22, 2007
Contact: Tony Hozeny, Department of Commerce, 608/267-9661

MADISON - Gov. Jim Doyle today announced that the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, will receive a $379,270 grant through the Housing Opportunities for Persons With Aids (HOPWA) Program from the Department of Commerce (Commerce). The award will support housing and related services for more that 300 individuals and households throughout Wisconsin.

"These funds respond to a critical need by providing adequate housing and supporting a network of dedicated professionals who provide a variety of services to people affected by HIV/AIDS," Gov. Doyle said.

HOPWA funds are used in communities of all sizes in Wisconsin's 66 rural counties to ensure that housing and supportive services are available to individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development provides HOPWA funds as an annual block grant to Commerce. The agency's Division of Housing and Community Development administers the program.
