Governor Announces $381,700 Brownfield Grant to Yorktown LLC

For Immediate Release: September 20, 2007
Contact: Tony Hozeny, Department of Commerce, 608/267-9661

Project to create 18 jobs

MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle announced today that Yorktown LLC, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, will receive a Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) grant of $381,700 to help redevelop a 12-acre site.

"Vacant lands hold so much potential for new growth and vitality," Governor Doyle said. "These grants are a great way to help grow businesses, create jobs, and energize communities."

Yorktown LLC is redeveloping the site to create space for a recently-formed manufacturer of recycled products. Additional property will be used for warehousing for two businesses. The project will create 18 full-time positions. Total project cost is $3,945,000.

Commerce's BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination.

For more information about the Brownfields Program, contact Jason Scott, Department of Commerce, at 608/261-7714.
