Governor Announces $250,000 Brownfield Grant to the City of Lake Mills

For Immediate Release: July 18, 2007
Contact: Tony Hozeny, Department of Commerce, 608/267-9661

MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the City of Lake Mills will receive a Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) grant of $250,000 to help redevelop a site that is at the community's gateway.

"Cleaning up brownfields is about more than just renewing damaged or vacant land," Governor Jim Doyle said. "This investment will help renew the pride of the entire Lake Mills community, while restoring jobs and productivity."

The City of Lake Mills and JJB Commercial Real Estate are working together to remediate property near the entry way to the city from I-94. The redevelopments are to improve the land to construct a restaurant, pharmacy, and a bank on the site. Total project cost is $9,405,164.

Commerce's BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination.
