Governor Announces $50,000 Brownfield Grant to the City Of Ashland
For Immediate Release: January 22, 2007 MADISON-Governor Jim Doyle has announced that HWC Enterprises of the City of Ashland in Ashland County, will receive a Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) grant of $50,000 for remediate and redevelopment of an industrial site. "The project has the potential to greatly improve the City of Ashland," Said Governor Doyle. "It will create job opportunities in that area and also help to clean up a work site." The grant will be used to aid in the creation of nine full-time positions within the next three years. In addition HWC Enterprises intends renovate the work facility and also to perform an environmental clean-up of petroleum contaminated waste at the site. The project will also be located in an area that is in a relatively high level of economic distress. Commerce's BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination.
