Governor Doyle Announces Funding for Water and Sewer Upgrades in Viroqua
For Immediate Release: January 10, 2007 MADISON-Governor Jim Doyle today announced that the City of Viroqua, Vernon County, will receive a $406,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) grant to upgrade utility infrastructure on Decker Street. "This project will allow the City of Viroqua to replace aged and inadequate infrastructure," Governor Doyle said. "I'm pleased that we could invest in the community's overall quality of life." State Trunk Highway 56/82, which runs through the community, is being rebuilt in three phases. The upgrade requires improvements in drainage, water main and sanitary sewers. The project will ensure adequate water, fire-protection and sewer service. The total project cost is $2.870 million. CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
