Project will upgrade public library

MADISON-Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Marinette County will receive a $206,000 Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) grant to renovate the Stephenson Public Library to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

"The Stephenson Library serves all of Marinette County and is a valuable source of information and enjoyment for residents," Governor Doyle said. "I'm pleased that we could improve the accessibility of the library and invest in the county's overall quality of life."

Built in 1903, the Stephenson Library is a 19,902-sq.-ft. structure. It will receive extensive renovations, including improvements to entrance, signage, elevator, and bathrooms. The total project cost is estimated to be $4.5 million.

CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
