Northern Wisconsin International Trade Association
The Northern Wisconsin International Trade Association
(NWITA) is the newest organization aiming at expanding international
commerce in Wisconsin. Established as the result of a Partners In
Education (PIE) initiative, NWITA has become a premier resource for
businesses in the northern-most part of the state looking to expand
their international markets. The founding partners of the NWITA include
the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business and Center
of International Education, the Wisconsin Department of Commerce Bureau
of Investment and Export, and student organization AIESEC. Membership
to NWITA is open to manufacturers, service firms, individuals, and
other academic organizations.
NWITA organizes workshops and seminars of interest to small- and
medium-sized businesses; offers opportunities to network and share
global business experiences through events, newsletters, and an on-line
members-only blog; and provides access to skilled student interns from
the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s international business
programs. “We hope that through NWITA we will be able to
foster a strong link between business and education, giving all
entities a better understanding of international issues,” said
Dr. Rama Yelkur, a professor at the UW-Eau Claire College of Business.
The next event organized by NWITA is entitled Export Compliance
Overview: 2008 and is scheduled for Wednesday October 15.
Speakers will include Ann Thomas of Circinus, Ltd. and Cherie Sonsalla
of Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc. Ms. Thomas, the President of
Circinus, Ltd., is a skilled professional with 17 years experience
import/export compliance and commercial trade issues and will provide
an overview of international business compliance issues. Ms.
Sonsalla is the Export Manager for Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc.
with over 10 years of international experience in customer service,
export compliance, and marketing. She will relate her practical
experiences with compliance issues. A Q&A session will
follow. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the
Holiday Inn in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. For more information regarding
location and registration, please visit http://www.nwitaglobal.org.
Trade organizations serving Wisconsin businesses and individuals in
other parts of the state include the Madison International Trade
Association (MITA), the Milwaukee World Trade Association (MWTA), and
the Stateline World Trade Association (SWLTA). Information and contact
information on these trade organizations is available on-line.
