Introductory Mandarin Chinese Lesson
The Confucius Institute at UW-Platteville will begin offering Chinese
language and culture classes in the summer and fall. The classes
will be taught by Professor Ganjun He from South-Central University for
Nationalities in Wuhan, China. He is one of two visiting faculty
members from UW-Platteville’s partner university who will be
teaching in the Confucius Institute for one year. He has many years of
experience teaching Mandarin Chinese to international students who are
learning Mandarin as a second language. The classes will be
informal gatherings of five to seven people, and Prof. He will give you
a sense of what is involved in learning Mandarin Chinese – and
how he approaches teaching the language to non-native
speakers.
Many people are referring to Mandarin when they say
“Chinese.” Since the Chinese government declared
Mandarin the national language, the majority of the Chinese population
has learned this dialect. Because Mandarin is the official
language, it is referred to by many as “the common speech.”
Mandarin is spoken natively by more people than any other single
language. More information about the Confucius Institute is
available at http://www.uwplatt.edu/confucius/institute.html.
