Global Imbalances and the U.S. Dollar
“Global Imbalances and the U.S. Dollar: Doing Business in the World Economy” will be the focus of a half-day conference held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 11:30 – 5:00 at the Fluno Center for Executive Education in Madison. The conference will feature internationally-recognized experts who will discuss current trends in global finance and their impact on U.S. businesses. Questions to be addressed include:
  • Will the U.S. trade deficit shrink?
  • Will the Chinese, the Saudis, and the Russians continue to finance our trade and government budget deficits?
  • Will the value of the dollar continue to fall?
  • What are the global implications of the U.S. financial distress?
  • And, how do theseissues affect Midwest firms competing in the global market?

The event will be sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy (WAGE), and LaFollette School of Public Affairs.
