IMPORTANT: As of July 1st, 2011, functions once performed by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce have been moved to other state agencies and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. Middleton, WI, ranked fourth in Money magazine's 2009 Best Places to Live list

Madison ranks as the 20th best tech center in a recent Business Journal survey. The community has 739 technology companies employing more than 15,000 workers, 54 high-tech jobs per 1,000 jobs, and a 13.2 percent rate of adults with masters' or doctoral degrees.

Wisconsin has surpassed Indiana to be the leading state for manufacturing employment as a percentage of total employment, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Wisconsin has 15.6 percent of its jobs in manufacturing vs. 15.4 percent for Indiana.
