IMPORTANT: As of July 1st, 2011, functions once performed by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce have been moved to other state agencies and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The former Commerce web site will continue to exist for the next several months as resources are moved to new web site locations. We will make every attempt possible to direct our users to the new locations as web resources are moved.

Staff Prepares for Public Hearings on Code Work

Two codes involving water and piping systems will be ready for public hearings in July.

The public swimming pool/water attraction code, Comm 90, has been under revision for three years. The project has taken national standard concepts and incorporated them into an entirely new water recreation code. The code's direction is to allow innovation and new, exciting ideas to prosper at Wisconsin's pools and water parks while still protecting public health and safety. Several new concepts are included in the code, including splash pads, play features, therapy pools and floatable pad walks.

The plumbing code revision draft, Comm 81 – 87, is a package that has been developed to respond to over 250 code change suggestions presented by Safety and Buildings staff, manufacturers, inspectors and Wisconsin's public. The revision also has been developed to adopt current industry standards for materials, fixtures and other plumbing products.

A new advisory code council to address erosion and sediment control and post construction storm water management issues is being formed and will begin meeting in June. This council will be looking at the interaction between Commerce and the Department of Natural Resources regarding the regulatory processes and the most efficient way to interact on construction sites. The council will be recommending revisions to Comm 21.125 and Comm 60 of the State Administrative Code.

Fore more information on any of these projects, contact Lynita Docken, program manager at 608/785-9349.
