MarketWatch Charts Milwaukee's Improved Business Climate Milwaukee has advanced two slots on MarketWatch's best fifty U.S. metros areas for business by moving from #18 in 2007 to #16 in 2008. Milwaukee outpaced such cities as St. Louis, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Austin, Portland, Phoenix, Orlando and Los Angeles. MarketWatch, which describes itself as the "leading online financial-news publisher" is part of the Wall Street Journal Digital Network. In its December 2nd announcement, MarketWatch stated that "Milwaukee wasn't the fastest-growing city, but it moved the largest number of places in population growth, rising five places." According MarketWatch, "the rankings are purely result-oriented and are based on available data in eight categories from various government agencies and financial organizations, as well as two business publications: Fortune and Forbes" with no subjective criteria such as quality of life being factored into the ranking.
