Governor Doyle, First Lady Announce Public Tours of Executive Residence to Begin Next Month Governor Jim Doyle and First Lady Jessica Doyle recently announced that public tours of Wisconsin's Executive Residence will begin Thursday, April 3, 2008 and continue through August. The tours will be offered every Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. "Jessica and I welcome people to visit the Executive Residence to learn its wonderful history," Governor Doyle said. "While we are lucky to live here, the Executive Residence is truly the people's home, and the tours give visitors the chance to see its beauty firsthand." Each guided tour lasts 20 to 30 minutes and includes a brief history and view of the rooms on the first floor. Visitors can also stroll through the gardens and enjoy a view of Lake Mendota. There is no charge for admission. Participants in the tours are encouraged to bring new or like new books to be donated to youth literacy organizations. Groups of 20 or more are asked to make a reservation by calling 608-246-5501. Home to 13 Governors, the Executive Residence was designed by local architect Frank Riley. Highlights include gifts presented to the State from around the world and artwork by Wisconsin artists. The Executive Residence is handicapped accessible. The Executive Residence is located at 99 Cambridge Road on Madison's northeast side in the Village of Maple Bluff. -- Carla Vigue |
