Housing Bureau Assists in Emergency Storm Clean-up Efforts

On June 7, 2007, severe storms spawned as many as five tornadoes in northern Wisconsin. An F-3 tornado hit Langlade County, destroying the Bear Paw Outdoor Resort and damaged at least nine single-family homes. The Town of Riverview in Oconto County was hard hit by an F-2 tornado. As many as 30 homes were damaged as well as the Riverview Volunteer Fire Department building and equipment. Marinette, Marathon and Wood Counties were also impacted though the damage was less severe.

The Division of Housing and Community Development administers the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program which has an Emergency Assistance component. These funds are granted to the community which then grants the funds to low- to moderate-income homeowners to repair their principal place of residence.

Commerce expects an application from Langlade County for emergency assistance for the homeowners and one from Oconto County for homeowner assistance and assistance to the Riverview Volunteer Fire Department.
